final touches

My show at Kaleido opens tomorrow!
I'm finally finished, everything is in place, I can't do anything more now than blog about it. My intention was to blog photos of all the pieces before the show opening... but things have been hectic, so I will have to do the updating afterwards.

Couldn't have managed without the help of Mattias, Annica and Paula!

Welcome to Kaleido all!

bathing beauties

They look a lot like like old-fashioned bathing caps, don't they? I named them Million Dollar Mermaid (top) and Neptunes Daughter (bottom) as an hommage to Esther Williams movies with the same names - which I haven't seen unfortunately...

The paper used is from an old norwegian childrens book I bought during my stay in Stavanger when I held a workshop there in spring. It's very thick and beautifully discolored, my guess is that it had a high content of wood, but I'm not sure about this.

papa bowl

For quite some time I have been working on papier maché objects for my solo show at Kaleido, but it's been long since I posted any photos. Starting today, I'll post pictures up until the show opens, August 28th. Here is a shallow bowl, 24 cm (9 inches) wide.

steaming hot!

Welcome back!
I haven't blogged for two months :( so this is mostly directed towards myself... I have a lot of updating to do but I'll start with the latest news. This past Saturday I held a bookbinding workshop at Sigtuna Kulturgård, the first workshop organized by myself in this location. Everything went fine, even though we were soaked in sweat before we even began to work, as the thermometer showed 30.9°C...! Luckily (?) there was no wind so we could open windows and balcony doors without paper blowing everywhere. We drank gallons of water, worked hard and had a great day.

Lunch consisted of soup (!!) and homebaked bread fixed by husband Mattias and served outside in the shade.

tie-up of threads

The opening of the Red Thread at Kaleido last Saturday. The weather could have been better but the gallery was quite packed anyway and the exhibition looked great. It was inspiring to see all the different interpretations of the theme. Below are just a few pics of all the goodies there.

From right to left: Maria Lewis from Kaleido, Annica Delfos from Galleri Zône (who initiated the collaboration) and the councellor from the Royal Dutch Embassy.

Saturday 12th of June is the opening of the show The Red Thread, at Kaleido in Uppsala! It will be officially opened by the counsellor from the Royal Dutch Embassy in Stockholm, Pieter Ramaen, at 12 o'clock.

I had a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago which knocked me off my feet for the first week. I'm still a little short of breath but recovering and will definitely try to be there, at least for a while.

Welcome all!

filling the void

This is my latest project for a group show called The Red Thread, at the Kaleido gallery this summer. This "necklace" is made of scraps of paper in many different qualities, folded and sewn on to a leather strap, the name of the piece is Filling the Void. Other exhibitors, apart from members of Kaleido, are a group of dutch artists from a similar cooperative in Holland: Galerie Zône. After summer the show will travel on to Leiden, in Holland, in the beginning of September.

book and box workshop

Held the second weekend workshop at HDK and the textile department in April. This time I taught them how to make boxes and accordion books. It's so rewarding to teach these courses, so inspiring to see what comes out of their hands. Here are some examples of their work.

gone back gone again

Last weekend I held a bookbinding workshop in this beautiful paper shop in the center of Göteborg, Rum för Papper. Shop owners Ulrica, Mia and Tove organized it all perfectly, so everyone had a great creative day in a beautiful setting. The shop consists of two not very big rooms, lined with paper goods from floor to ceiling. I'll be back there in october again, looking forward to it already.

Since the girls had their Easter break, I came with the whole family and we stayed in our old neighborhood with our former next door neighbors. It was so nice to be back, we all got very sentimental...

Tomorrow I'm off to Göteborg – again... This is the last weekend I'm at HDK, and the Crafts Department, this spring. This time to teach them how to make boxes! It will be interesting since it's the first time I give a course in this.
